ACDelco has roots in the GM brand as far back as the founding of both General Motors and the AC spark plug division in 1908. In 1916, United Motors corporation was created by GM founder William Durant to supply parts for GM vehicles and included, among other divisions, Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company, or Delco. United Motors went through several name changes over the years, becoming AC-Delco in 1974. The hyphen was removed in 1995.
